You need to look at the bigger picture, while also focusing on the detail. This is a whole new world for some leaders, and they need to adopt a new mindset and find ways to become more flexible and adaptable. How can leaders develop agility in their teams? The current climate calls for a shift to a new style of leadership, which is less about offering solutions and more about encouraging people to think for themselves and come up with new ideas. Its then about supporting them to work through those possibilities. Leaders need to give people the confidence to take the initiative and act in line with the overall intent, while not necessarily following the plans that have been agreed or asking for permission. It’s important to recognize that sometimes it’s about bucking the trend rather than following it. How do we need to change the way we develop leaders? Research suggests that the ideal learning environment is a safe emergency.   In other words, we need to stress people, in a controlled and supportive environment. This makes learning memorable and helps them build new pathways in the brain that they can call on when faced with difficult scenarios in real-life. Iddo Tavory’s Summoned: identification and religious life in a Jewish neighborhood builds up on the understanding of readers regarding social life and interaction, culture, and mainly identity by studying one particular group- the Jewish orthodox living in the Beverly-La Brea, South east of Hollywood. It is an example of symbolic interactionist ethnography that express how the interaction of humans with their surrounding will help us understand human beings more. It can also be seen as an auto ethnography in which the author writes it from both field and personal experiences. One of the major strength of the book is how its construction engages well with its arrangement and coordination. This is clearly seen in the logically coordinated eight chapters of the book. Even though the book is short, it consists of abundant evidences that are constructed professionally. It starts from the history of the neighborhood and continues to its current state focusing on organizational structure and current role in everyday summoning (p.13), to synagogue life in how religion gatherings and conventions help members get closer, to the distinction among the neighborhood Jews internally (p.79), to the differentiation of the non-Jewish people regarding work and other social life and finally to the way in which the Jews navigate their environment and its morally treacherous passages, such as button-operated crosswalks(p.127). Moreover, it emphasizes on how and when the orthodox Jews are summoned in everyday life and the unfolding of their interactions due to projects and summons of others (p.7). Their identity is constructed through their social life and experience. Another Strength of the book lies in its auto ethnography nature in which Tavory takes the readers to the field by acting as a medium. This makes the unfamiliar place understandable and more relatable. He also provides an in depth analysis of the theme from interpersonal things like the furnishing and predictability of Judaism by cloth, manner and food (p.66-67, 82-84, 94-96, 139-140), to the changing of the neighborhood and the day-to-day practices regarding symbolic boundaries (37, 40, 129-132).Moreover, Tavory uses imagery and metaphor to make his writing delightful and to express how life was to the readers. In addition, his language usage and metaphors provides a better insight to readers and makes the book enjoyable and relatable. For instance, to explain the thickness of the life of the Jewish people while he was living there, he writes: â€Å"living an Orthodox life in the Beverly-LaBrea neighborhood was like swimming in honey† (p.3).According to Tavory, to be orthodox is not just a status, it requires a lot to be one. Tavory expresses life in the community as exhilarating but at the same time tiring and overbearing (p.3). He builds up on his argument by mentioning how people start their day early in the morning by praying and stay involved throughout their day in the Orthodox world; even the streets reminds them their identity. The book’s main contribution is related with identity and social interaction within the clear boundaries as the setting. This is seen through Tavory’s unique building methods of his arguments and his setting choice. The main concentration of the analysis is that how the people live in a place with everything at opposite/odds regarding who they are both as an individual and collectively. The views of orthodox, a religious life that requires a lot, and Hollywood life, a life with fame and partying, is completely different. So how would it be possible to live in a neighborhood of 70%-80% of non-Jewish people and act as if this non-Jewish people are invisible to them? This is where summoning comes. Tavory explains the idea of summoning by relating it to Althusser’s juridical â€Å"interpellation† in which how the police officer in French shouts out telling you to turn around (p.6). This statement captures the idea in which people internalize culture and evoke them in our everyday life. Summoning can be both an emotional and labeling process. This idea of how the social environment affects our identity and the ethnographic genre is also studied under micro sociology, which studies about daily interactions of people at a social level and small scale and ethnographic genres including observation and interviews (you may ask yourself, 1). Even though tavory’s work was mainly on his observation, he also did 45 interviews as a way to support the ethnographic data regarding the neighborhood history and organizational structures. Tavory used abductive analysis as his research method and he precisely explains it the appendix of the book. Abductive analysis is a way of â€Å"theorizing qualitative data from observation† (p.163). He applies this methodology by mentioning how he encountered surprises while observing and how the world would â€Å"normalize† the surprises (p.163). This involves induction (generalizing after empirical observation) and deduction (start with a theory then test and design empirical observations and the research) (you may ask your self,2). For example, he mentions how the Jews see and speak about the non-Jews, and how they avoided passing by a non-kosher food place but then a rabbi can pass by and moreover, the rabbi can also read what’s written. It is clearly seen how Tavory goes to generalizations by theorizing their chances of being related in intricate acts of meaning that occurs over a period of time. I really enjoyed reading this book and was able to relate to most of the things since I come from an orthodox background. However, there were some things I hoped he included in his writing. Even though Tavory explained the summoning, culture, style social interaction, and ways of life, he didn’t stress the pain and resistance within the summoning. And also he didn’t mention the political conditions and history that made summoning possible. He refers back to an incident that happened while he was walking with a friend at Melrose. A passenger in the car pulled their middle finger out on them yelling â€Å"Jews!†(p.140). Tavor’s friend seemed really untroubled by this incident and he just thought of it as an ignorance. This might raise questions such as, â€Å"how did such kind of thinking and indifference came from?† in the reader’s mind. In addition, even if the setting is the most important part of the research, it has also it downs. Tavory only focused and analyzed summoning on a specific community making it homogenous even though the main occupiers of the neighborhood are the non-Jews people with different atmosphere vibe. This might have brought a slight change in the interpretation and analyzing of summoning. In general it was a well written book in an interesting manner. It broadens ones point of view and perspectives regarding social life and interaction and how they shape an individual as well as a community. I believe its in depth analysis of summoning and the relationship between identities and communities in reference to space and personal practices will make it an interesting topic for students studying ethnography. Also, the book will help them built up on their theoretical skills.

The movement has influenced millions of people and is inciting the truth out of people (Roberts, 2018). It has given us a framework and shows us what democracy really does look like (Roberts, 2018). It has given its people a voice to talk about what they believe in and stand against injustices such as police violence and the forms of racism experienced by the black community (Roberts, 2018). The BLM movement has succeeded in transforming how Americans talk about, think about, and organize for freedom (Roberts, 2018). The BLM is a part of a coalition called the Movement of Black lives, and together they have been fighting and responding to high-profile police shootings of black people from 2014 to this day (Ransby, 2017). Their actions are reinvigorating the 21st-century racial-justice movement, and by extension the anti-racist left, by offering a better model for social movements (Ransby, 2017). The BLM movement is very different from the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The Civil Rights movement tended to the common and political rights that were denied to black people (Harris, 2015) Some of those denials included access and utilization of housing, privilege to vote, guarantee of reasonable business and job openings, and opportunities without discrimination (Harris, 2015). Gaining the Respect of Others Essay My grandmother was a very respectable person who was raised in a good family with old fashioned values. Her childhood was spent on a farm in Wisconsin in the early 1900s and most of all she was a respectable person in the community and within her family. Just a brief description of my grandmother, she was not a very tall person at five foot four but her presence was much broader than she was tall. Respect is something that most people want and some people really dont care about it, all my life I have attempted to portray these characteristics in everything that I did to gain her respect. Gaining the respect of elders in this world is not easy because of the way my generation was raised. Respect for others has a lot to do with how you treat them. Do you deliberately ignore people of poor dress and hygiene? Are you kinder to a beautiful person? If you are one of these people then I feel sorry for you, even though those people that we stereotype as under privileged people may have Fortune 500 Executives who may have lost their jobs. You never know that could be us one day and then how would you feel about that? That is why my grandmother always taught me to respect and treat everyone as you would want to be treated by them. I would have to say that I had the greatest mentor for learning the process for giving and earning respect from others. You should be kind to peoples feelings and try and help people to feel happy, now that is part of showing respect. Many people do not get the proper respect that they want. Everyone thinks that respect for good looks and money make people very superficial and yet it is the standard that everyone follows in this generation. Showing respect for others is to try and go out of your way to treat everyone the same way. Corrective Measures of Balance of Payment Deficits Balance of Payment (BoP) is a system followed by countries to keep an account of their income and expenditures. There are mainly three accounts in this system, this is the current account, capital account, and balance of settlement. Du Plessis et al. (1998) mentioned that the disequilibrium in the Balance of Payment is a condition when there is surplus or deficits in the accounts. The three approaches have been identified in order to tackle the Balance of Payment Disequilibrium. This has been discussed in light of deficit situation of BoP. Monetary Approach The researches done by Chacholiades (1990) mentioned that the imbalances in the money markets affect the international reserves of the country. When the money supply increases due to fixed regime of exchange rates the expenditure on foreign goods and services increases, these results in the foreign reserves moving out of the country and creates the situation deficits in BoP. The step taken in such situation is to increase the interest rates, thereby controlling the expenditure and maintaining the foreign exchange reserves. China recorded the BoP deficit situation in the second quarter of 2012, first time after 1998 (The Economist, 2012). However the overall situation of current account was in surplus during that time, as China actively blocks the foreign outflow of funds by strict capital controls. There has been studies conducted by Obioma (1998), this research was done for the period of 1960-1993 in Nigeria. This study was done under different exchange rate system. It was found that if the external credit is increased and there is the change in money stock that results in the changes in the foreign reserves and increases the outflow of funds to the foreign country. It is necessary at that time to reduce the credits by increasing the interest rates so that the outflow of funds can be curbed. Elasticity Approach The approach firstly propounded by Robinson (1937) argues that the exchange rate volatility and changes had a direct correlation with the exports and imports. The analysis of Marshallian Partial Equilibrium is used in the approach (Barbone Rivera-Batiz, 1987). In case of the BoP deficit the approach is to devalue the currency. If foreign elasticity of exports ex + home elasticity for imports ei 1 and currency is devalued it results in the increase in the balance of payments. It is assumed if the sum of elastic is greater than one than it will reduce the imports and increase the exports. The basic disadvantage of devaluation of currency is the rise of inflation as the domestic products become more affordable. Similar is the cases of currency pegged with others for the purpose of borrowing like the Thai Bhat linked with US Dollar (Norris, 2013). The research of Norris (2013) mentioned that the Thailand government had borrowed the debt in terms of the US Dollar. When the Dollar was de valued it resulted in aggravating the debt owned by the Thailand government thereby resulting in the financial crisis. Absorption Approach This approach is the critic of Elasticity approach. The BoP Deficits under this approach is corrected by increasing the production, which is the National Income, over and above the expenditure which is the Absorption. It can also be corrected if the level of Total Absorption is changed. Researches done by Machlup (1955) have found that when the income is devalued it affects the exports of the country, and it also synergizes the demand for domestic products. Absorption means that the people are consuming more and producing less. The absorption is measure which states that the people are consuming higher and the expenditure on the consumption is much more than the investments. If the absorption rate that can be denoted by a is greater than 1, this will bring undesirable affect of the devaluation on the BOP. In such situation it is ideal that the government follows a policy measure that is driven to reduce the expenditure and increase the investments so that the production of the countr y is increased. The increased production and decline in the absorption and buying capacity will improve the Balance of Payments of the country. The exports should be boosted and the imports should be brought to check so that the declines in the currency and the deficits in the Balance of Payments is brought to check. Keynesian and Classic Causes of Inflation Classical Cause Classic case of Economics also called the case of Laissez Faire is based on the predictions that the economy automatically turns itself into full employment. The predictions of the classical economists are based on the principle developed by Say (1776-1832) and are known as Says Law. The Says Law mentions that the Supply has the potential of creating its own demand. The classical model also considered that when the demand is reduced it resulted in the reduction in the wages and the prices of the produce. This maintained the real GDP. Meanwhile, higher demand resulted in inflation as the produce remained static. Classic economists were of the view that when the aggregate demand changed it only resulted in the changes in the prices of the product. Inflation and Money Supply are directly proportional in a given output level (EconomyWatch, 2010). The biggest demerit of the classical theory of inflation that basis itself onto the quantity theory of money is that it does not states how the increases in the supply of money cause the changes in the price levels. The employment rates and the GDP remained unchanged. The supply curve in classical theories is vertically aggregate in nature. Keynes (1940) stated that there is a inflation gap that exists when the planned expenses increases the output. Inflation gap is created due to the mismatch between the disposable income and changes in output. The prices and wages were also not fixed as per the Keynesian theorists. Keynes was of the view that inflation should be controlled and if it not it can have ripple effects on the stakes. Increases in money supply might not directly relate to the increases in inflation as per Keynes. If Money in circulation is increased it results in the decline in the velocity with which this money is circulated. The speed with which the money is circulated is dependent on the money that is actually available. Keynes has also noted that the increase in the money supply also increases T, which is the transaction. Keynes theory of inflation is also linked with employment and the prospects thereof. According to the theory, the firms will increase the number of people to be employed that will result in the increasing of aggregate demand. The demand rise forces the firms to employ more and more people for raising the output. However, due to capacity constraints the increased output mismatches the actual demand. This mismatch between demand and supply ultimately results in the increase of the price of goods. Keynes was of the view that inflation stage began after the fill employment. First her mother got sick with the fever and sent Mattie to a farm outside of town, with her Grandfather. Soon afterwards, Matilda caught the fever and Grandfather carried her to a hospital in Bush Hill. After struggling at home for a while to find food, thieves came and Matilda defended the house with Grandfather. Soon afterwards, Grandfather passed away. The next morning Matilda looked around town and found their coffeehouse cook, Eliza, her brother, and nephews. Eventually, Eliza's nephews and a lost homeless girl, Nell, got sick and were taken to the coffeehouse. Once the frost came almost all of the sick got well so Eliza and Matilda opened up the coffeehouse together. Then, Matilda's mother returned home, tired, but alive. Matilda had grown up, metaphorically and literally, into a young adult during the course of the book. Some examples of Matilda growing up into a young adult are her surviving the fever, all of the people dead around her, and running the Cook Coffeehouse with Eliza. Surviving the yellow fever was a big experience for Matilda to go through. It really opened her eyes to the world of life and death. For example, the death cart man at Bush Hill said, "She looks dead." (97) For somebody to think you are dead is a very bad sign. Matilda must have been in really bad shape. Although to survive is a very eye opening experience. This next quote is said by Matilda's nurse in Bush Hill, Mrs. Flagg. "You've beat the Grim Reaper, you have lassie... we weren't sure you'd make it through the night," (99) Matilda was so sick that doctors didn't know if she would survive the night. Beating the Grim Reaper was an astonishing feat for anyone to do. Seeing all of this evidence made it very clear that surviving the yellow fever attributed to Matilda becoming a young adult. Another thing that helped with Matilda growing up is all of the people dead around her. One short quote, said by Matilda's mother was extremely important to the story, "Matilda, Polly's dead." (13) First, it was the start of the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. Second, Matilda knew Polly pretty well, as a servant and a friend. To lose her first must have been terrible. Another quote that supports her maturity was said by Matilda when she exclaimed, "Dead? Grandfather couldn't be dead." (147) Right when Grandfather passed away, Mattie took his death okay. Then the next morning, it seemed more real to Mattie. Lastly, much later, Matilda learned to accept all of what had happened. During the book Matilda learned to accept death of friends and family much better. In closing, all of the people dead and dying around Mattie contributed to her maturing and learning how to deal with grief. The last thing that demonstrated Mattie's growing up process is handling all of the work of running the coffeehouse. This is said by Matilda's mother about going shopping. It is, "No Matilda must stay home. I shall go." (25) This quote is important to the story because it shows that at the beginning of the book, Matilda was not even allowed to go shopping for the coffeehouse, much less run it. She wasn't nearly as respected as she became. My second quote was from the end of the book, when Matilda was running the coffeehouse. The quote is thought by her, here it is, "Free samples were proving to be a clever way to get customers to eat more." (228) Once she started running the coffeehouse, Mattie learned all of the tips and tricks to getting more money. She really became the owner after that.
